Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA)should be classified as a somatic representationor microsystem comparable to other well-knownmicrosystems such as ear, mouth, nose, hand,or foot acupuncture. Its basic somatotope islocated along the frontal hairline, and its Ypsilonpoints (internal organ points) are located in thetemporal region. This is a system that is quite different from TCM scalpacupuncture, a modality that was developed in the 1960's in China and usesneedle insertion over corresponding motor and sensory regions of the brain.YNSA is a flexible interlacing method of treatment that requires adjustmentsdepending on the necessities of each patient. Exact measurements andprecise locations must therefore be approximate. The method of pointdetermination relies on the findings of abdominal or neck diagnosis, withconsideration for pathological changes evident on inspection or palpation ofthe approximate point area based on diagnostic indications.
